This summer I finally went on vacation. Going from Tuscan heat, heading North through Switzerland, France, Austria, and Germany and reaching Holland. A beautiful country I suddenly fell in love with. Windmills, canals, bicycles, sunflowers. So different from Florence.
As you can probably imagine, I wanted to paint or draw every single corner and every single moment.
In my Holland series I will put together my strongest impressions.
The first one is the sunflowers. they seem to be ubiquitous in Holland. I love them.
You might agree with me that even though you expect flowers to be everywhere in Holland – the country of flowers, sunflowers of Van Gogh – but every time you are very surprised by their presence and their stunning beauty!
I wanted to spend as much time as possible just watching and admiring them. No wonder that Van Gogh had so many paintings with sunflowers!
Well, to finish the "sunflowery" introduction to my Holland Series I'll just confess... – All the sunflowers that ended up in my sketchbook or in the photographs have names. Or rather, they all have one name. I call them "Van Gogh" :) So, please meet Van Gogh Number One!
